Ex-Machina is a stunning film depicting the near future, where AI has been made possible. This incredibly naturalistic film is completely remarkable. The subtleties of the editing, music, cinematography, just everything really, creates this realistic world, a feeling I hadn't expected to gain from the trailers. The characters have genuine depth and the internet protégé who instigated the whole project is hilarious and yet disgusting at the same time, illustrating the sheer complexity of the whole film. Having said this though, it is so beautifully simple. The shots are nothing groundbreaking and yet the way they are used seems to make perfect aristic sense while watching. Furthermore the CGI is incredible. In parts I forgot that this creation wasn't something that was actually in the flesh. And the themes explored were so interesting. The notion that creating robotic life as being morally ambiguous isn't new but the understated way that this film plays out makes it feel so real and original. I could actually believe that this life could be made and that the events that eventually play out could happen.
It's remarkable, would definately recomend it as a watch.
In a sentance: Disturbing but absolutely brilliant.
