Finally watched this film and can now finally understand its hype. What a film. Albeit the cliched acting and storyline could easily have gotten too much but it just hangs on the right side of acceptable. It's just one of those films where it will make you cry regardless of whether or not you like it simply because of the soundtrack, let alone the cinematography and everything else.
Although the acting is pretty decent from the whole cast I thought the most convincing was Lucilla (played by Connie Nielsen) who is that bitch of a brother's (actually quite a complex and hard character to play but one done very well by Jaquin Pheonix) sister. She encapsulated all her struggles seamlessly. Although she is a kind of damsel in distress character that is quite frustrating to watch in 2016, as women tend to be potreyed as far more inderpendant nowadays (as they should be!), it was still very well potreyed by her.
In a sentance: A solid 7.
