I watched this on holiday in Italy, one of two films available, the other being High School Musical...
Considering i wasn't expecting anything from it as i had never heard of it before i thought the film was actually pretty decent. now, it might have ben due to the lack of distractions (wifi being one of them) and the fact we watched it as a family - meaning any time we weren't watching my dad gave out to us- i still think it was pretty decent.
Toni Collett perfectly navigates this role and maintains my high expectations of her throughout. The standout performance however was Thomas Haden Church as 'Charlie'. He was hilarious, enough set.
Aside from the random came from Johnny Depp (i won't ruin this for once) and the annoying lack of closure from this character*, it was pretty good.
In a sentence: Yeah, i wouldn't watch it again but it was enjoyable.
*ok, so obvs i am going to spoil this... so the whole film you're wondering about this boyfriend Collette had who was this mega famous musician who just disapears without any explanation. Most presume he committee suicide but Collette always maintains that he is still alive. so at the end of the film she finally find him, but do we get a satisfying explanation- no, fuck that, do we get any explanation?! No! No, we get nothing. It was one of the most infuriating endings, he's just like, cool bye. And we're all like, WHAT THE FUCK?! But maybe this is just a more accurate representation of what would happen in real life? how most of the time things go unspoken? But still, it was bloody infuriating.
